Projects / Bay Meadows Restoration

Bay Meadows Restoration

Bay Meadows is a new reserve for the Trust. Previous grazing regimes have left the soil compacted with impoverished flora. This project will restore the land through the application of green hay to introduce a number of wild flowers, managed grazing and creating habitats for the existing wildlife which have been disturbed by a housing development which is close by.
In addition works will be undertaken to the River Og to increase the potential of spawning and nursery for Wild Brown Trout. Additional works to narrow the channel and create off stream water features will also increase the number of birds and link the habitat network of flying birds.
Works will be undertaken to guide the public around the site through the installation of clear signage and creation of bridges, and also the creation of local volunteer groups who can be involved in a practical manner.
