Boyton Marshes, Suffolk – Lagoon Creation

To restore ecosystem functions through creating freshwater wetland habitat, adjacent to the Alde-Ore SPA. This will address the impact of coastal squeeze on habitats and allow hydrological management of the site; ultimately securing the stability of key designated species such as avocet and lapwing.
This is phase one of a new wetland habitat creation at Flybury Point, Boyton Marshes. This includes purchase and installation of two water control structures and earthworks to create the new wetland habitats.
Boyton Marshes is a regionally important coastal grazing marsh, vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This project will address the effect of coastal squeeze, improve hydrological function of the marshes and provide habitat for SPA species including avocet, lapwing & water vole.
