Central Govan Gateway – Orkney Street

The overarching aim of the project is to create attractive contemporary space for social economy organisations within a refurbished listed building. The building would be designed to have strong spatial links with the surrounding neighbourhood. The space created within the building will include offices, meeting rooms, training rooms and break-out space. This redevelopment of Govan’s historic Burgh Hall represents the first phase of a new area renewal strategy for central Govan. Within the context of the recently approved area renewal master plan ‘The central Govan action plan’, this proposal will create a new civic space which will be identified as one of the key strategic ‘Gateway’ sites into central Govan. This new civic space will be created around the former Old Burgh Hall and will comprise new office and conference facilities alongside new housing, all integrated and co-located on one site. The refurbished building will provide a new centre for microfinance and social enterprise in the centre of Govan
