Colchester Museums and Colchester Natural History Society

The museum has occupied the church building for at least forty years. The land around the Natural History Museum was formerly a churchyard and cemetery. Now deconsecrated, the land has become the garden of the museum. The wildlife garden will enhance the visitor experience and complement the static displays inside the museum.
Most of the work will be carried out by BTCV volunteers under contract during September and October of this year. Members of CNHS will help with planning, design, interpretation, planting and maintenance. Several local habitats will be represented, together with a pond and stag beetle pyramid.
The Natural History Museum is owned by Colchester Borough Council. Volunteers of the CNHS have undertaken to Maintain the garden. Other volunteers may also work on it from time to time e.g. work experience from schools or Duke of Edinburgh Award students.
