Colchester YMCA

The Colchester YMCA site in Magdalen Street, Colchester includes a community hall. The hall has its own car park, however access to the hall from the car park is via 6 steps. Despite the hall being equipped with a kitchen, disabled toilet and hearing loop system, this barrier is stopping disabled community groups making use of the hall.
The hall is currently used by homeless and vulnerable young people, community groups, local events, churches and businesses, various statutory organisations, Alzheimers Society and fitness groups. Many of these groups have people with disabilities.
The proposal to install a wheelchair lift would make for much easier access for people with disabilities enabling them to make full use of this community resource.
