Cruggleton Castle

The only upstanding remains of the castle is an arch, dramatically positioned on a cliff top. The castle has not been used since the 17C and has strong connections to the Lords of Galloway. It is a popular feature near to a coastal footpath. The arch is now in imminent danger of collapse and the plan is to take it down, replace the support frame and then restore the arch. The site is a sheduled ancient monument and Historic Scotland are providing the match funding. An interpretative panel will be provided, if funds permit, or form a separate project.
