Elvet Methodist Church

There has been a Methodist presence in the Elvet area since before the 13th Century. The current church was built in 1903, serving Durham City and its environs, together with the Methodist Chaplaincy of Durham University.
The Church Council of Elvet Methodist Church, which manages the land and the buildings on the site have started a project to repair and replace the external stonework of the Church, repair the stained glass windows, repair the water tabling around the building’s gable ends, replace the slate roof above the main corridor and repair the Caretaker’s house which is situated in the Church grounds. Having secured a large percentage of the funding, work commenced on the above-mentioned work in July 2006. They are phasing the work in order to give them time to fundraise the shortfall.
Although the work is not expected to attract more visitors to the Church it will ensure the long-term sustainability of the building.
