Extension to the existing community café and replacement of the outside toilet with an inside disabled toilet, Frankie Howerd OBE Trust, Loxton, nr. Weston

The project is to build a disabled toilet and an extension to the existing community café. The café which ECT contributed to is so popular in reducing isolation among elderly, isolated people in the ten plus villages and hamlets in the area, that there is a need to expand and improve the facilities. The existing toilet is a temporary outside toilet. Many elderly beneficiaries and those with limited mobility find it difficult to access. The extension will include an additional seating space where groups will be able to meet for activities, a ‘cupboard/cellar’ area for the handyman group to use for storage, and to lay foundations so that full drainage for the future can be installed. The toilet extension will reduce any existing barriers to attending the café, opening it up to more people. More space will allow more activities, such as health clinics and social events, increasing community cohesion.
