Projects / Improvement of Riparian Habitats for Priority Species

Improvement of Riparian Habitats for Priority Species

The main aim of the project is to improve riparian habitats within key areas on the River Fleet and River Urr. This will be achieved by planting deciduous trees (along 3km), undertaking rock placement (along 300m) and erecting fencing (along 1.8km). These sites will benefit a range of species such as otter and water vole but in particular Atlantic salmon (D and G LBAP priority species) which require good quality in – stream / riparian habitats and water quality. Success of the project will be monitored through electrofishing and habitat surveys. Information on the works completed will be published via the Galloway Fisheries Trust (GFT) website, newspaper articles, GFT newsletters and signage.
