Insulate and retile roof

St Symphorians Church Hall in Worthing, West Sussex is managed by Durrington Parochial Church Council (DPCC). The building offers users a large hall with a stage, a small hall, kitchen and toilets, an office and store room.

Regular weekly groups include bowls, Zumba, uniformed groups, two support groups and karate. Monthly activities include messy church and book club, and ad-hoc use includes coffee mornings, brunch and congregational celebrations.

The degradation of the facilities has led to a drop off in use in recent years. The hall roof is leaking which causes an ingress of water and the shorting of electricity, closing the site until an electrician is available to carry out repairs. The hall has also had to be closed three times in the last year due to health and safety concerns following water ingress. The lack of insulation has meant that the heating system is ineffective, overworked, and it has now failed. The applicant is raising funds locally to cover the cost of a new boiler, which is expected to be installed by December 2024.

Biffa Award has been approached to provide a 79 per cent contribution towards the installation of a new roof, to include insulation. Shortfall funding to cover the roof, a bee brick and the Biffa Award plaque will be funded by the applicant.
