Marton Mere NR, Blackpool – Wetland & Habitat Improvements (50126/D)

The aim of this project is to restore and regenerate the habitats at Marton Mere Nature Reserve and develop the visitor facilities in order to encourage and engage new audiences at the site and foster greater awareness and involvement among the local population. The project will entail extensive improvements to site infrastructure including paths and signage, as well as measures to enhance the visitor experience including creation of a new hide suitable for delivering education activities, and development of a visitor centre. The habitat works will include restoration of grassland, scrub and reed beds, and creation of new habitats including a new pond network, flooded feeding grounds on the existing island, and a sand martin nesting bank. A member of staff will be employed to engage the public both in the development works and the on-going site usage, offering education, training, events, and activities and volunteering.
