Medicinal Quadrant

Since the Society of Apothecaries first grew medicinal plants at Chelsea Physic Garden 340 years ago the site has evolved through numerous changes, but continues to demonstrate this vital group of plants. Though these collections are perhaps the most comprehensive of their kind in the UK, they are hampered by a shortage of growing space, heavy shade, limited viewing areas for visitors and guided groups and scant interpretation. As one of the most popular areas of the Garden this space also suffers the impact of significant footfall leading to compaction and large areas of dead turf. The existing narrow paths are also inaccessible to wheelchair users.
