Needingworth Tennis Club

The project is to replace metal halide lightbulbs with LEDs at Needingworth Tennis Club. This is being done in line with LTA sustainability guidelines and will offer continued opportunity for members, non-members and local schools. It will also reduce light pollution bleeding from the court onto neighbours’ property.

The project will dramatically improve our carbon footprint. LED bulbs use around 75% less energy than the equivalent. One of the existing bulbs has recently gone and the club has struggled to replace it as metal halide lights are being phased out. Although the courts are still playable it has caused some loss of light and loss of any more could mean the club has to stop play during winter evenings. Failure to replace the lights overall would result in being unable to play tennis outside of daylight hours, which would result in losing teams and the ability to run coaching courses outside the summer.

The club has committed to a fund for SEN coaching to support children with special needs to get free one to one coaching if required, this is supported by the Cambs LTA who have agreed to match our fund. We have a good coaching programme for young people, offering Summer Camps as well as coaching. We offer Pickle Ball for our older members and are introducing Walking Tennis.
Holywell School will have free use of the courts. We also have 4 Mens Teams, 2 Womens teams and a Mixed Team, a Veterans and a Super Seniors Team. We are a Village Tennis Club but ensure Tennis for All. Unlike many Tennis Clubs our A Team members are known by the other members and attend our Social Tennis weekly sessions.
