Queen’s Wood Environmental Improvements 1

Froglife will be working with the ‘friends of’ Queen’s Wood Park, local people, schools and the London borough of Haringey, to convert a redundant 1930s paddling pool in the ancient woodland into an amphibian and other wildlife haven. the paddling pool was historically a natural pond and the ‘friends of’ group and London Borough of Haringey would like to restore the pond for local people and schools to enjoy. This would greatly improve the biodiversity within this site of Metropolitan Importance and Metropolitan Open Land as there are no standing water bodies currently present. A Geosynthetic Clay Liner will be used to lengthen the lifespan of the project. A dipping platform will be installed to enable local school children to use the site for educational conservation activities. Equally as important to amphibian populations is the provision of terrestrial habitats, these will be incorporated into the project plan providing both amphibian and reptile species with hibernation and foraging sites.
