Renew Bell Installation of St James

St James the Great church in Barrow-in-Furness is a Grade II Listed Building. All but one of the eight bells have been silent since 1999 due to serious deterioration of the bell towrer, including a weakened timber frame and rusted metalwork. The project will completely renew the installation by installing a galvanised frame lower in the tower, thus enabling the cleaned, restored and re-tuned bells to ring again for another century. An automated system of hourly chimes will also be installed. The church will then set out to recruit a whole new team of bell ringers and to welcome visiting ringers and members of the public to enjoy the peals.
