St Leonard’s Belltower

The peal of 8 bells has ceased to be rung due to health and safety concerns. The stone dressing in the ringing chamber in the 14th century tower, although structurally sound, is fragmenting and falling off. Under the supervision of the church architect 3 estimates have been obtained to make safe the chamber, the DAC have approved the plans and a faculty is being sought.
The clock in the bell tower is a two train plate frame clock, built in 1779 which is currently not working because of a fault in the friction drive to the hands. Access to the clock is via the bell tower and therefore there is synergy to be gained from, linking the work on the clock with the working in the ringing chamber of the bell tower.
