The Well Community Centre,London- new toilet block (006492)

This project will remodel and refurbish the ageing toilet block at The Well Community Centre in East Ham, a thriving community venue used by over 3,000 people every week. The Well is home to a range of services for local people of all ages and backgrounds, from toddler groups to a daily programme of physical, creative and social activities that keep elders “active and connected”. Once a derelict drinking club, this important local amenity was repaired and brought back into community use by BDCA in 2001.
To keep The Well as a welcoming place for everyone, they need to upgrade the toilets which were last refurbished 11 years ago and are becoming unpleasant: there is lifting flooring, leaking pipework, sticking taps, outdated flush mechanisms, and rising damp on walls. This project will also remodel the toilets in a more efficient configuration, which will mean we can enlarge the Children’s Centre room by 12m2. This will permit more children to attend activities and allow more community use.
