Veteran Trees on Hampstead Heath

A one year project to carry out arboricultural management in order to prolong the life of at least 50 veteran trees on Hampstead Heath. Following on from a survey carried out a volunteer group in 2006 the project would carry out management prescriptions including haloing, retrenchment pruning and mulching in order to protect root plates.

The project will prolonge life span of 50 veteran trees, conserving the flora/fauna they support and contributing to the conservation of biodiversity in the wider wood pasture habitat. The project addresses national targets for Lowland wood pasture and parkland, regional/local targets for woodland.
