Youth Culture Ltd – ‘CO1’

The CO1 One Stop Shop and Cafe project will provide children and young people of Colchester with a high quality, safe and informal town- centre venue which offers food and drink, and a variety of regular families and events including homework areas, computer gaming, internet access, band and night club evenings. This is a venue for entertainment fun and live music – something that young people can share in and develop. Youth Culture was established in the year 2000 out of a need to tackle problems affecting disadvantaged children and young people aged between 10 -19 years old living in Colchester of which there are 20,000. Colchester is amongst the four most deprived districts in Essex with 4% of people living in seriously deprived small areas some of which are in the 40% most deprived areas in England.
There is an expectation to see less young people on the streets and more accessing the facilities, to see a drop in crime rates and anti- social behaviour and a rise in school achievement levels.
