Positive news for the Landfill Communities Fund

imageresource

We are pleased to share some positive news about the future of the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), following the Government’s Budget announcement.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury has confirmed that the Government recognises the important role the LCF continues to play in supporting local communities and environmental projects and wants to ensure that it remains a viable source of funding for as long as Landfill Tax receipts can support it.

To support this, from 1 April 2027 the Government will increase the cap on the amount of Landfill Tax credit that landfill operators may claim on contributions to Environmental Bodies from 5.3% to 8.3%. The estimated value of the LCF for 2027–28 will therefore be £25.3 million.

This is welcome news for the LCF community and provides greater certainty as we look ahead to the next financial year.

The announcement comes in the Fund’s 30th anniversary year. Over the past three decades, the LCF has provided around £1.75 billion, supporting more than 70,000 completed projects across the UK. Those projects have improved community facilities, protected and enhanced the natural environment, and helped attract wider investment into communities affected by landfill sites.

This achievement would not have been possible without the commitment of Environmental Bodies, landfill operators and the many organisations and individuals involved in delivering LCF projects.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the Fund and to the communities and environmental projects it supports.
