17th Century Barn Restoration

The project is the renovation of a Grade II listed barn at Margaret McMillan House in Wrotham, Kent. The main aim of the project is to secure the future of the barn by repairing the frame of the building and replacing a window. Margaret McMillan House provides residential adventure activity courses for children and young people. The barn is used for archery, indoor team-building activities and a useful social space for residential groups. The architectural and historical importance of the barn and the centre itself, provide an inspirational setting for teaching history and social development. For example, both buildings were used in the evacuation of children in the World War II and we provide sessions and activities to school groups based on that theme. The barn has become integral to the experiences of children and young people visiting us and this essential work will mean that they will continue to be able to use this important building.
