(18027) - Slitting Mill Victory Hall - To restore, update and repair the hall for the community, villagers and hirers.

In 1945 the land was gifted to residents and a trust deed was signed in 1949. In 1953 Victory Hall was built and opened. The hall is brick and consists of a lobby with disabled toilet, main hall with stage, ladies and gents’ toilets, a side room with a serving area and a kitchen.

The hall was last decorated 17 years ago, and every single room needs redecoration. There is flaking paint and plaster breakage in some areas. The roof leaked in September, during a freak rain pour and urgent repairs were undertaken but it still needs a full repair. Water came through the kitchen leaving plaster damage and unsightly damp marks on the ceiling and walls. The flooring throughout is marked, scratched, worn and there are pieces missing. The disabled toilet needs to be reconfigured, new sanitaryware is needed in all toilets and a storage cupboard is needed for cleaning equipment. Finally, new cupboard doors and worktops are needed in the kitchen.

The applicant’s main focus is bringing the hall into the modern era to be able to continue the benefit for its loyal hirers, residents and the community. Current users are U3A, Lichfield Canine Society, Rugeley Folk Dance, Trent Valley Photographic, a wellbeing group, drum group, Rugeley Dog Trials, Country Canines, Southwell Band, Hawk Rising, Druids, social events, yoga and Village Church. The nearest other facility is Etching Hill Village Hall which is 1.27 miles away.
