50KW Solar Panel Installation, Hornets RFC Limited, Weston Super Mare

The project is for a 50KW solar panel installation on the south facing roofs of Hornets RFC.

The operation of the community rugby club is primarily in winter and on weekday evenings/ weekends. The club is a high electricity user. Using a solar panel/battery system, energy generated in the daytime will charge the batteries, which will then power the club in the evening.

This installation will benefit the community by reducing dependency on the energy market and hence reduce the risk on the business through uncontrollable costs. This in turn will allow funds normally spent on electricity costs to be reinvested into projects that will benefit the users of the facility, particularly projects that increase the access to the facilities.

The club is open to the community, besides the use as a rugby club and commercial hires for meeting and corporate team building events the club is a regular base for the Men’s Talk Club (North Somerset) charity, Weston Hospice Care for fundraising events, other charity fund raising events (eg Goblet cell). A weekly older person’s daytime meeting group. The facilities are regularly used as a polling station.
