(#692) Double glazing of hall windows in community hall

Beacon Church Pheasey (BCP) is located at the centre of the community of Pheasey and Park Farm estates on the edge of Birmingham, Walsall and Barr Beacon. The church is of single storey brick construction with a flat roof, and was constructed as part of the new estate in 1964. The building offers users two large halls, two small meeting rooms, two kitchens and toilets. In 2025 the reception area and an adjacent room were refurbished to create a youth and community coffee shop, which is open four days each week, staffed by volunteers. Regular weekly groups using the main hall include several different themed baby and toddler groups, exercise sessions, gymnastics and dance, uniformed groups, slimming club, men’s choir and for after school tuition. Monthly sessions include a dementia café and a coffee morning.

As part of the wider café renovation, BCP was able to replace single glazed windows with double glazing, install LED lighting in the main hall, and redecorate. Attention now turns to replacing the single glazed floor to ceiling steel framed windows and integrated door in the main hall, following complaints from users about it being cold and draughty in the winter months. Biffa Award has been approached fund a grey aluminium A-rated frame of four equal sections, to include an exit door and bank of windows which spans 4.8m wide x 4m high. The applicant confirms that there is another community building across the road from the church which is well-used, and rarely has availability to hire.
