A Lifeline for Lapwings at Middleton Lakes

Our project aims to transform RSPB Middleton Lakes into the most important place for wading birds in the heart of the Midlands. We will do this by creating 20 hectares of UK BAP priority floodplain grazing marsh habitat that will provide a lifeline for birds such as Lapwings (UK BAP listed species). This is essential to their future in this area of the Midlands. It is a brilliant time for us to start this project as we open Middleton Lakes to the public for the first time in 2011. This will enable us to showcase the project as it develops, and involve local adult and youth volunteers in the work to create this vital habitat.
