A Living Sea – The Irish Sea

A Marine Conservation Officer will arrange training for volunteers to undertake surveys of cetaceans. The data gathered will be added to the statistics for the county and entered in to the National Biodiversity Network and will inform the Marine Conservation Zone designation process. In order to protect and expand the populations of UK BAP cetaceans a network of Marine Protected Areas in the Irish Sea will be established. The project officer will engage stakeholders and marine users to develop management strategies. Best practice will be adopted from similar projects in other areas of the UK.
The outcomes of the project will be to engage with stakeholders to raise awareness of issues relating to the habitats and build relationships with marine stakeholders and decision makers.
