A575920 St Mary Magdalene, Stilton

To restore the Collyweston roof on the south slope of the nave of St Mary’s church, Stilton: remove existing slates, clean and retain those viable for re-use, lay roofing felt, re-lay salvaged Collyweston slates with associated soakers and flashings, allowing for any new slates from an approved source.
Collyweston stone is a traditional building material from specific quarries in Northamptonshire. It is specified by English Heritage as part of the listing of the building and cannot be substituted by other materials in this project. Laying Collyweston slates is a skilled job which few contractors can undertake, therefore costs are higher than standard roofing.
