ABLE2 Kirklees

Improve a landmark urban/rural fringe site, in an area of mulitple deprivations, into a multi-purpose eco-facility and visitor attraction offering exciting social learning and recreational opportunities; its core zones will feature sustainable fishery, BMX and wellbeing activities. Through exemplar development it will enhance and reinforce an established leisure corridor (Spen Valley Greenway, Country Park, river, therapeutic centre/children’s farm) with a wealth of cultural heritage. A key focus will be the PSHCE development of Leeds City Region’s young people. The extensive site – formerly a landfill between disused railway lines – adjoins an extremely accessible and high profile Sustrans route. ABLE2 will deliver a sustainable, inclusive and inspiring local amenity, integral to the communities in North Kirklees.
