Acacia Street Play Area

The Acacia St play area is in a residential area of Hatfield and currently comprises of a green space and children's playground. The space is under utilised by the local community and a large amount of anecdotal evidence suggests that these prospective users have been intimidated by anti-social behaviour. A public consultation, conducted by Groundwork, indicted that many local residents would be interested in using the space. The current proposal has 2 intentions - 1. To address the issue of anti-social behaviour through landscape interventions - addition of ditches to prevent cars crossing, to move playground to a site with increases surveillance, increase visibility of site through removal of shrubs etc. 2 To update the existing equipment where necessary and add further designed areas to increase appeal and encourage ownership of the space by new and existing users.
