Access Improvements and Habitat Management at Knowetop Lochs

Knowetop Lochs is a small but diverse upland Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve. Two small lochs are separated by a ridge of birch woodland, fringed by reed- swamp, bog and willow scrub with areas of wet and dry heath.
The reserve is popular with visitors particularly between May and September when the flowers are at their best and the birds are plentiful.
The project aims to undertake a variety of improvement tasks to enable visitors to continue to enjoy visits to Knowetop Lochs. These will include:-
Access improvements including the replacement of 45m of broadwalk and construction of a further 30m, strimming the footpath network and clearing windblown trees.
Fencing work including the construction of 800m of stock -proof fencing.
Habitat management – – bracken control to enhance habitat for the scotch argus butterfly.
