Projects / Accessing Danes Moss nature reserve

Accessing Danes Moss nature reserve

The project aims to significantly improve visitor access across Danes Moss – the largest example of a raised mire in Cheshire. The varied wetland mosaic supports a range of scarce plants and insects, including 11 species of damselfly and dragonfly, and rare breeding birds such as Willow Tit.
The existing boardwalk has come to the end of its lifespan so the aim is to install a new, accessible boardwalk to ensure year-round access with no detrimental impacts on the delicate peatland habitat.
CWT would like to transform the visitor experience to inform, engage and inspire our audience about the nature reserve, peatlands and mosses, and their national importance for wildlife, climate and people.
Interpretation boards will be created to tell the story of Danes Moss and new online interpretation can be used on a visitor’s phone to form a self-guided tour of the reserve. Key wildlife will be highlighted, and a range of photos and videos will be included in the StoryMap to bring the reserve to life.
