Projects / Acornfield Plantation Restoration works

Acornfield Plantation Restoration works

The project will undertake habitat restoration work at Acornfield Plantation, a predominantly woodland site on the edge of Kirkby and Knowsley’s only Local Nature Reserve. The project will restore a valuable network of wetland habitats within the site, including work to a 2.1ha area or lowland raised bog and adjoining ditches and watercourses (590m). Habitat enhancement will also take place across the site’s woodland (10.6ha) and to its degraded areas of acid grassland (min 2000m2), together making a good contribution to local BAP targets and benefitting species such as dragonflies and water vole. A further aim of the project is involve local volunteers in the delivery of this work, and better educate Knowsley Council staff in managing the site for nature conservation.
