Acquisition of Tunman Wood

The purchase of Tunman Wood, Eagle Barnsdale, Lincoln, LN6 9EA, extending 53ha with title being transferred to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust from Lafarge Aggregates plc. The wood is included in Natural England’s Inventory of Ancient Woodland as a plantation on an ancient woodland site (NVC W8). The management aim will be to remove exotic conifers and restore native broadleaved woodland. Woodland indicator species are found on open rides, woodland edges and banks. It has potential to be an excellent bird site. The woodland is within the proposed Lincoln sub-regional country park area and ownership will offer more extensive access opportunities. The wood will be used as an educational facility from Whisby Education Centre.
