Actions for the wood pasture in the Lower Dales of Dumfries and Galloway – Stellage Wood

The project aims to promote sustainable management of wood pasture, a UKBAP and LBAP priority habitat that is a distinct mix of old and veteran trees in a grassland setting. This project will create a unique scheme, through partnership working between conservation organisations and landowners, producing demonstration sites, training events and direct action on farms. Objectives of the project include developing management plans, implementing practical work such as fencing and tree planting and increasing access and public awareness of this LBAP habitat. UKBAP priority species such as bats, red squirrel and black grouse will also benefit from the project.
