Advancing Wildlife at Annesley Woodhouse

Annesley Woodhouse Quarry Nature Reserve covers the majority of Annesley Woodhouse Quarry SSSI and is one of the best examples of calcaroues grassland in Nottinghamshire.

Parts have become dominated by Torr Grass and is classed as ‘unfavourable recovering’. The project aims to restore the grassland, enable greater control of the grazing – thus reducing future mangement required, establish a monitoring system and locally promote the sites conservation value.

The project will remove scrub accross 1.2 hectares, construct 500 metres of stock fencing – including a gate and two stiles, provide equipment and staff time for montioring and promotion. Once the physical imporvements have been made the grazing regime can be amended to focus on breaking down the dense Tor Grass Sward.
