Aldermoor Park, Southampton - Creation of a MUGA and Outdoor Gym (008055)

The project aims to bring a dilapidated, underutilised tarmac pitch back into safe use. A multi-use games area (MUGA) and outdoor gym will directly address consultation feedback, creating ‘opportunities that meet resident's needs, interests and are accessible’ as per the Council's ‘We can be Active’ Strategy, March 22. The MUGA will enhance the quality and variety of recreation activities available, providing a healthy environment where residents can; • take physical exercise,reducing health risks • relieve stress and anxiety, improving mental well-being • interact socially, creating a connected and cohesive community • take pride in the area Located in Coxford ward • 1 in 5 households are deprived in at least 1 indicator(employment, education, health, overcrowding) • 80% of homes are social housing flats, limited access to private green space. • Less than 50% of residents report Good/Very Good health compared to 80% nationally • Adult physical activity rates in the 10% most deprived area below
