Alfriston Playground, Alfriston – Replacement of play equipment

Alfriston playground is the only play provision for hundreds of families in the Cuckmere Valley. The playground has potential to be a vibrant community hub: it serves 5 villages, is next to Alfriston Primary school, social housing and the cricket club, and is close to the nursery, pre-school and South Downs Way. However, the playground desperately needs renovation: the swings and see-saw were condemned in 2021; other equipment is broken, has rusty holes or rotten posts and surfacing is unsafe. The Friends of Alfriston Playground, a voluntary community group, formed in 2021 to save the playground. The vision is for a stimulating playground that connects families with community and nature, engages volunteers and improves the environment. The Friends have 89 members and huge community support: >300 people took part in their 6-month consultation and they have raised £9,538 from events, crowdfunding and a grant from East Sussex County Council. Alfriston Parish Council have set aside £8k.
