Alrewas Island Phase 1

The purpose of this project is to restore and develop Alrewas Island, bringing it back into use for a range of activities such as Scout camps, orienteering, fishing, kayaking and model boating as well as as a venue for village activities such as arts festivals. This phase of project works aims to make Alrewas Island, which has been neglected for over 30 years, accessible and includes crown lifting willows and thinning out, repair and replacement as necessary of hawthorn hedge boundary and render it animal proof, re-cultivation of the grass meadow, dredging of the mill stream to its original depth, creation of access paths across the island and the creation of a habitat for for bats, bees and birds with a wildlife pond and wooded area.
