Alveley Environmental Project – Solar Panels, Alveley Cricket Club (ACC), Bridgnorth, Shropshire

This is a project to install solar panels on the pavilion roof at Alveley Cricket Club. Alveley Cricket Club has transformed a disused field into an incredible community facility. The work that has taken place is a real credit to everyone associated to the club and the people that have funded it. The club continues to develop an innovative eco-friendly site that will provide a multi hub for community groups and activities. It aims to be one of the most environmentally friendly clubs in the country. There are a whole range of reasons why this project is so important, local/diversionary activities for young people, and local services for older people and services for families to encourage active habits for life. People on low incomes, unemployed will benefit. The project will provide a quality environmental amenity that plays a vital role in sustaining vibrant community and places accessible locally. Access to opportunities for recreation, the amenity and community facilities are an important consideration in determining quality of life for residents.

The club has already seen the huge difference the site has made locally. This will be increase further by using the savings from utility bills to be reinvested back into the ground. The project will connect young people to older residents. By working together the club will create safer communities with strong social networks with everyone showing respect for each other. The facility will be cleaner and safer, having a strong sense of community pride. The club will create a reliable infrastructure with facilities for everyone, particularly young people thus contributing to the reduction in anti-social behaviour and tackling health inequalities.
