Amber catchment restoration at Hilcote Project Field, Pasture Lane.

The River Amber has suffered neglect, resulting in poor water quality and degraded habitat. At the Hilcote Project Field (Community Reserve) on Pasture Lane, we propose creating wetland as a model for improving the river. Buffer zones will be created of varying depths of pools and sizes which greatly benefit BAP bird species; these also act as natural flood defences. We will engage local volunteers in designing the new wetland. They will be trained in survey techniques for detecting mammals such as otter and water vole, a BAP species. Exceptional value is maintained by using volunteer teams.
