Ancient woodland and grassland restoration at Lower Woods SSSI

Lower Woods is 284ha of ancient semi-natural woodland, linked by a network of wide grassy rides or trenches. The project will restore 3ha of poplar plantation back to ancient woodland, put 3ha of semi-derelict coppice back into rotation and restore 2ha of scrub to grassland. Due to its size, Lower Woods supports a huge diversity of wildlife from common dormouse, lesser horseshoe bat and nightingale, to rare butterflies such as white admiral, purple hairstreak and brown argus.
