Anglesey Red Squirrel Project (ARSP)

Anglesey is 1 of only 3 sites in Wales to have Red Squirrel populations. This project look to establish Anglesey as a haven for Red Squirrels. Red Squirrels are listed in the Wales BAP and the Anglesey LBAP with Newborough Forest identified as a priority reintrodution site. The aim of the project is to conserve the remaining indigenous population of red squirrels at Pentraeth Forest on Anglesey and then to enable the population to recolonise all woodlands on the island by a programme of grey squirrel control and habitat management. This recolonisation will be aided by a red squirrel reintroduction project at Newborough Forest, Anglesey, using captive bred and wild stock ( where available )
