Annie Besant & Jayaben Desai: History Makers on Strike

1. To tell the story of the life and achievements of Annie Besant and Jayaben Desai particularly
in relation to the Match Girls Strike and Grunwick Strike respectively – embedding andcelebrating more female BAME history makers’ stories into the galleries.
2. To enhance the visitor experience at PHM by adding immersive digital technology to bring
the stories of history makers Annie Besant & Jayaben Desai to life
3. To inspire children and young people to reflect on how collective action and taking action
can advance ideas you believe in and change the course of history.
4. To enable children to access and be inspired by the stories of Annie Besant and Jayaben
Desai wherever they are in the UK (through the Virtual Trail).
5. To allow PHM to increase accessibility of the collections and stories relating to Annie Besant
& the Match Girls Strike and Jayaben Desai & the Grunwick Strike
