Appleton Fields, Newburgh - Pathways & Habitat creation and Management (008344)

The Appleton Fields project will restore and enhance biodiversity across 7 acres of meadow and woodland in Newburgh, Lancashire. Key activities include extending accessible pathways, planting wildflowers to support pollinators, and creating hedgerows for birds and small mammals. Habitat features such as dead hedges and log piles will benefit insects and hedgehogs. Woodland improvements will involve selective larch thinning, bramble clearance, and planting native species to encourage regeneration and improve safety. Meadow preparation (mowing, strimming, raking) will aid wildflower expansion. The project is underpinned by ecological surveys from Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Small Planet Assessors. Community engagement through volunteering, education, and stewardship is central to its long-term impact.
