Astley and Chat Moss restoration programme

The Project will restore and enhance two key mossland sites. Work will provide suitable water levels to support and enhance the spread of mossland vegetation. Capital works will include the construction of retaining baulkways to trap rainfall and raise water levels. The Installation of water control features will enable levels to be fine-tuned for optimum mossland vegetation growth. The dryness of the site has led to large-scale tree invasion, drying the site out further. Tree removal will terefore need to be undertaken. New associated wetland habitat will be created on land adjacent to Astley Moss, including Marsh, Fen, Scrapes and Pools.
