Aughton Woods and Lawsons Meadow Restoration

This project will begin the restoration of the Cole Wood and Lawsons Meadow sections of Aughton Woods by felling larch and cutting rank grassland to provide open space and good conditions for planting with Oaks and wildflowers. Cole Wood retains features of ancient semi-natural woodlands and Larch will be felled to restore the site to woodland comprising native species. Lawsons Meadow has declined in species richness due to a lack of grazing management. Specialist contractors are needed to start the recovery with a restoration cut. Stock proof fencing will secure the boundaries of the Burton Wood SSSI section. Keeping livestock out of the woodland is essential for the ground flora and the welfare of the livestock.
