Aughton Woods Nature Reserve Enhancement

Aughton Woods is made up of a complex of ancient semi-natural woodland situated on the northern side of the River Lune five miles north east of Lancaster. The main section, Burton Wood, is classified as a SSSI. The woodland stands on a steep bank above grazed meadows. Recent landslips have severely damaged the lower boundary fence and deposited large amounts of debris on to the edge of the meadow area. This part of the meadow consists of permanetly wet marsh land and would be an asset to the reserve. The intention is to purchase the area which encompasses the landslip together with the wet meadow, to install boundary fences around it and to renew other damaged fences on the woodland boundary
