Ballantrae Harbour Wall – Storm Protection Plan

The Harbour, constructed circa 1847 from Arran Freestone is suffering considerable erosion to the seaward side of the main wall, particularly from wave impact force. Built with a loose rubble filled heart it is imperative that the outer wall skin is unbreached. Our objective is to protect this face by placing approx 1000 tonnes Armour rock in front of the wall to act as a buffer. This improvement to the defences of the Harbour will ensure the longevity of this well used community facility, but more importantly its contribution as an environmental barrier against coastal erosion.
