Ballinderry White-clawed Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) breeding and reintroduction programme

The Ballinderry River has been designated an ASSI and SAC for its communities of Freshwater Pearl Mussel, Otter and Water-crowfoot floating plantain. Like these rare and threatened species, the Ballinderry once hosted a healthy population of White-clawed crayfish. However in recent decades their numbers have been in serious decline
