Balloch Wood Drystane Restoration

Balloch Wood is located on the outskirts of the rural village of Creetown and is a community managed woodland of 97 hectares. The wood is a much used recreational area for local residents and visitors.
The aim of the project is to rebuild a section of the traditional drystane dyke boundary. The work will be carried out by a qualified instructor of the Dry Stone Walling Association who will train groups of volunteers a new rural skill. It is intended that 300 metres of drystane dyke will be rebuilt and 40 participants will be trained.
The project will help enhance and protect this amenity while also creating a skill base for future work.
